A CLOSER LOOK AT OUR FUNCTIONAL DETAILS

A CLOSER LOOK AT OUR FUNCTIONAL DETAILS

As a central pillar of QWSTION’s philosophy, function is a word we use on high rotation. But what exactly are we referring to when we speak about the functionality of our bags? The answer is in the details. The swift twist of a clasp. Padded inbuilt sleeves that ensure your laptop glides smoothly into your backpack. Creating our own unique carry systems – like the Simple-Strap-System® and the 1-for-2 System® – has been integral to our design process since day one. Here we take a closer look at some of our developments.

MODULAR HANDLE

Our modular handle is one of the innovations of our Bananatex® Collection, and literally goes hand in hand with our Hook Buckles, which together allow for multiple carrying options and swift adjustment when you need to pick up your bag while on the go.

MULTIPLE CARRYING OPTIONS

When is a backpack more than a backpack? We’d answer: When you can ride through the city on your bike with it, then swap to the side handle and walk into a formal meeting. That’s the thinking behind our Multiple Carrying Options. For the Bananatex® Roll Pack we created a completely new feature, the modular handle, which allows for easy transition between carrying the bag on your back, in your hand or over your shoulder.

BACKPACK STRAP ADJUSTMENT SYSTEM

The straps for our backpacks made from organic cotton are created with a type of webbing that is distinct from the bag’s shell fabric. When we tried to do the same for the Roll Pack made from our new Bananatex® fabric, we found the yarn too rigid to create straps with the right handfeel. So we experimented with folding the shell fabric itself to make the bag’s straps, the easy adjustment of which is ensured by a segmented Daisy Chain system.

MERINO FELT LAPTOP COMPARTMENT

There’s no need for an extra tech case with our all-natural Merino felt laptop compartment, built to fit up to a 15” MacBook Pro®. 3mm-thick padding keeps a computer safe and shock-resistant without adding weight, while the finish of the pure Merino allows for smooth access. The firm wool felt gives structure and extends to the bag’s base, ensuring shock protection for other items too. And the all-natural fabric allows the bag to stay plastic-free.

CIRCLESTITCH®

Our Circlestitch® technique is a signature design feature that we developed eight years ago. We wanted to create an alternative to the weaker box stitch – one that would be better at distributing tension when the strap experiences diagonal pull. Since having implemented Circlestitch®, we haven’t had a single case of tear – plus we like the way it works in combination with our curved Bananatex® logo.

SIMPLE-STRAP-SYSTEM®

The Simple-Strap-System® is what allows our Tote to go from casual shoulder bag to sleek backpack in no time at all – perfect for commuting across the city on your bike.
Like the idea of having a Simple-Strap-System®? It’s featured on our Shopper, Zipshopper, Day Tote, Tote and Small Tote.

1-FOR-2® SYSTEM

We developed our 1-for-2-System® to offer one detachable strap with two purposes, which allows the bag to be carried either as a backpack or over one shoulder. Due to its two-in-one nature, this saves a lot of weight compared to other convertible systems, and gives you a lot of flexibility. At the heart of this innovative system lies a uniquely designed buckle.
You will find this system on all our bags with shoulder strap: Weekender, Overnighter, Officebag, Simple Office.

HOOK BUCKLE

Developed to serve several purposes in a uniform design language, our Hook Buckle was created specifically for the shapeshifting Bananatex® Roll Pack. It took several rounds of prototyping before we settled on a final mould. The Hook Buckle now keeps in place the Roll Pack’s modular handle, ensures its easy opening and closing, connects the end of bag’s top when closed, and allows its straps to be adjusted to the right position.

DAISY CHAIN

Integral to the adjustment of the Roll Pack’s straps is another new design element – a modular system which allows for the simple adjustment of straps according to the bag’s volume and weight. The Daisy Chain refers to the segmentation of the straps at fixed, regular positions, demarcated by reinforced stitching.
